they also got me for a charge of 39.90 on jan 30th 2009. .i have had to fill out fraud papers with my bank at wachovia and also fraud charges at baltimore county police dept fraud division .. they are nothing but scam artists and charge you when you dont even know anything about it or even have charged anything what so ever … i was told that my wife and i had even signed up for a membership back in october of 2009.. if that was the case her or myself would have told eachother …they are being charged to the fullest extent of the law in maryland and we are going to sue them for fraud . there phone number is 1-888-239-0316 if any body else needs it .. they are a f***ing joke and a bunch of sh*t !!

I signed up for Privacy Matters 123 and canceled after 4 days, thinking I was done with them. Unfortunately, I got a bill today for $29.95 Privacy Matter Identity, and $2 for Privacy Plus (what ever that is) – neither of which I ordered!! When I called customer service stating I canceled the Trial Membership back in October, “Sharon” indicated I didn’t cancel everything, and had the audacity to tell me I should have been more specific during my cancellation and told them I wanted to cancel “ALL” the services. What a SCAM!!! I’m so irritated I was taken for for the 2 months it took me to question this charge. Ughhhh!!

This is all linked to the fraudulent company ADAPTIVE MARKETING that runs hundreds of different opt in scams. Privacy Matters and At Home Rewards are two of the companies that will charge your credit card. Don’t forget to tell them to remove you from their database or they will sell your information. Crooks!

I used this service one time, and foolishly agreed to fill in my account number, on the understanding that I WOULD NOT be charged any fees unless I passed the 30 day free trial, and had not cancelled. I only wanted to check my credit rating and score, and cancelled immediatly after looking at them. I didn’t even have the service for 24 hours. I later received a letter from my bank, with a $1.00 debit, and overdraft fee. Two days later, I recieved a letter from the bank with a $29.95 charge, and second overdraft fee. I immediately called the company, only to be informed that my membership wasn’t cancelled like I was told!! I had been charged the 30 day renewal fee, and it had only been 10 days!! They eventually refunded the amounts that they debited, but are now disputing the overdraft fees. This company is DEFINETLY running a scam. I plan to report them to the Better Business Bureau. I would have given negative star amounts if possible!

I also got it from these guys, although at least I caught it after only two $19.95 charges. After calling Privacy Matters directly, they stated they would remove the second charge but not the first one. I called my credit card company to get the first one removed….it’s currently in “dispute”. Worst case scenario, they’ll get me for $20.

I then went and canceled my classmates account, along with sending them a nasty-gram.

They’ll get theirs eventually…..in this life or the next.

Everyone…Beware of this company. It is definitely running a scam. They WILL take your money, in my opinion. When I called to inquire of the charges I knew nothing about, they immediately wanted to refund my $$, and “cancel my membership”…that I had NEVER signed up for.

This company is not a privacy protection organization, they are actually a criminal group that steals identities and fraudulently uses credit cards without the permission of the legitimate owner. I luckily caught an unauthorized charge from this company within 4 days. I filed a dispute with my bank to halt the charge and contacted the police department fraud unit in my town.

When I researched this company I also learned that they are affiliated with Classmates.com and will charge credit cards used to join that service without making a good faith effort to let the victim know. I believe this is similar to the practice of “slamming” where phone companies would sign you up for their service UNLESS you opted out. Insanity. If you see this company anywhere, run fast!
